3550 feet of height stands the beautifully built Pratapgad fort which
tells the stories of Shivaji's bravery. Pratapgad was built by
one
of Shivaji's administrator named
Moropant
Pingle in 1656. Pratapgad is 300 mts wide
and 400 mts in long. The place on the fort where Shivaji lived is marked even today by a statue of Shivaji. The the idol of Bhavani devi in the Bhavani Temple on this fort was set up by Shivaji himself, it was in 1661. Visitors do not forget to visit this place when they are on the fort. In 1659 Shivaji killed Afzalkhan - ruler of Ahmednagar on this fort by stabbing him by Tiger's Claws (Iron claws). Pratapgad can be seen from Mahabaleshwar which is only 24 kms away from there. |
