Dr. Dinkar Gangadhar Kelkar -  (PuneDiary's  Pune's Pride Section)

Each big city of the world has its own unique mark by which it is remembered in the hearts of the tourist and the visitors-Paris is known by Eiffel Tower and New York  by statue of liberty. The city of Pune in Maharashtra will doubtlessly be borne in mind by the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, a unique one man collection of historical and everyday-use artifacts, in the same manner as the Shaniwar Wada.

Padmashri Dr.D.G.Kelkar (1896-1990)a resident of Pune, devoted his entire life to build this Museum from scratch to crest with his tireless enthusiasm and efforts. The museum is nothing less than a well-knit poem of this poet-collector with different sections of the Museum as its touching stanzas and the exhibits as its flowering expressions.

The museum building with a historical appearance and the Galleries unmistakably remind one of the life and culture of the Maratha period. The artifacts displayed in this building take one to the style of life of the people lived at that time from dawn to dusk. A major department 'Vanita Kaksha' is devoted to life style of the woman of that period. It perpetuates the most valuable contribution of  Mrs. Kelkar to the growth of the Museum.
