Story: This time the men at work being crime branch police officials - Askhay Kumar
(DCP Hari OM Patnaik), Sunil Shetty (Sub-Inspectors Appa Kadam Nayak), Shatrughan Sinha (Senior Inspector Vikram Singh) and Paresh Rawal (Constable Khaled Ahmed). Vikram Singh who has been in Mumbai Crime Branch for years has left all hopes of cleaning the system. Then there is Appa
Kadam, an encounter specialist, who believes the only to clean up the grime in the system is to eliminate the offenders. But both of them are paralyzed by defunct law system. They are waiting for a senior who understands their problems. In comes Akshay Kumar, a young law abiding IPS police officer. He means business and is determined to change the system. Once he understands the situation and people he is pitted against he decides to take the system heads on by hook or by crook. These bunch of daredevils wage a crusade against the crime in the city. And as they dig they find out they are pitted against who’s who of the society. Home Minister Manik Rao, business tycoon Walia (Jackie Shroff) and underworld don Yusuf Pathan (Irrfan Khan) are working together to serve their evil purposes. Things turn ugly when Yeda Pathan (Rahul Dev), brother of Yusuf Pathan, kills business magnate Ajit Pradhan (Milind Gunaji) in a fit of anger - a murder that was never intended to be. Police commissioner Om Puri assigns DCP Om Patnaik, Vikram, Appa Kadam and Khaled Ahmed to solve the case. Setting aside their ideological differences, these people sacrifice everything to reach to the bottom of this slime and bring the criminals to the book. |
| Inside story: Now after "Khakee", Akshay will be seen as a cop in two more movie roles in the next three months. "I play a cop in 'Police Force' and 'Aan'. But they're very different from each other and from 'Khakee'." "Apart from the colour of my uniform, there's no similarity among the three films. That's quite a change from my pre-'Jaanwar' days when I used to have a cop's uniform hanging constantly in my make-up van. I played a cop in innumerable films then, all a blur in my mind now. "Playing a cop in 'Khakee', 'Police Force' and 'Aan' and playing the same role in my earlier films were two entirely different experiences for me, as I'm sure they are for the audience." Says AKshay |
| Music: 'Dil Se Dilbar', was the opening number, though extremely predictable and run of the mill, does turn out to be an okay listening after it is played a number of times. Next follows 'Jab Tak Rahega' which is not a 'Top 10' material but still better than the previous song mainly due to Abhijeet's singing. 'Koi Pyaar Na Kare'. Mainly set to similar tune as 'Dil Se Dilbar', it is a sadder version but unlike other sad songs, it is not short but a full-fledged song by Sonu Nigam. It is specially typed as a 'dard-e-dil' track of broken hearts. Next item track in a row is 'Nasha Nasha' which boasts of international dancers and some grand sets. A zippy number, it is sung exuberantly by Sunidhi Chauhan on Dev Kohli's lyrics. Graph of the album is taken further up with a surprisingly melodious number 'Hum Aapse' that reminds of the 60s era. Sung excellently by Sonu Nigam. The album ends on a satisfactory note with 'Hamare Baad'. |
| Overall: To sum it up Madhur Bhandarkar ‘Aan - Men at Work’ shows a lot of promise but disappoints with its lack of dialogues and script. Fault lies with the director. He is not able to utilize the actors he had properly. |
