Tooth
Colored Fillings |
 |
|
| |
Tooth colored fillings material has
undergone continuous and tremendous changes
in the fillings durability, esthetics and
material handling. The most versatile and
widely used tooth colored filling is
composite resin filling. A composite is a
material in which filler particles are
encased in and bound together by a hard
matrix material. For composite resin
fillings a fluid matrix of an acrylic,
called BIS-GMA, is hardened around glass
filler particles to form composite resin.
Direct Composite
The composite white teeth colored fillings
are dental fillings treatments that restore
and mimic the natural appearance of tooth
structure. In addition to restoring teeth
that have fractured or decayed, tooth
colored fillings may also be used
cosmetically to change the size, color and
shape of teeth. This quality is particularly
useful in closing gaps between teeth;
repairing chipped teeth and making teeth
appear to be more straight or even.
Cavities will occur if you do not brush and
floss your teeth regularly. It is important
to have tooth cavities repaired with
feelings as soon as possible to prevent
further damage. thus save the tooth with the
help of tooth colored fillings. The earlier
the tooth cavity is treated the better
because the care is simple and painless. The
dental care centre uses latest composite
tooth colored fillings treatment that takes
care of the esthetics and the natural look
of the teeth as the tooth colored fillings
matching to your original color of the tooth
is selected and used. The composite white
tooth colored fillings can not be recognized
as the fillings seem just similar to
original tooth color |
| |
Indirect Composite / Porcelain Inlay
The other type of 'white filling' is called
a Composite or Porcelain Inlay. These
fillings are usually placed in back teeth
when esthetics is of utmost concern. In
order to increase their strength and
longevity, they are fabricated in the
laboratory and then bonded into position in
the office. This is a two visit procedure
rather than the one visit required to place
a composite filling. However, when it comes
to strength and cosmetics, the extra time
and expense is well worth it! I hope that
you now understand a little bit more about
white filling. |

| Root
Canal Treatment |

Saving teeth from extraction with root canal
treatment: |
| |
Endodontics - what is
that?
Endodontics is the field of dentistry that
deals with treating disease inside the
tooth.
The healthy tooth The diseased tooth
Endodontics is the field of dentistry that
deals with treating disease inside the
tooth. If a tooth has been badly decayed or
traumatized the pulp inside the tooth can
become infected. When toxins and bacteria
leak out the openings at the tips of the
root a dental abscess can form. In order to
treat or prevent this dental abscess the
dentist cleans out all the necrotic pulp
tissue from within the pulp chamber and root
canals through the required dental
treatment.
Once the tooth is sufficiently cleaned out
and as sterile as possible, the root canal
system is sealed off. Bacteria are prevented
from infecting the tooth again in most cases
(a small percentage of root treatments do
fail, especially if they are only done long
after the abscess develops. However, many
teeth are successfully saved from
extraction, and root treatments are a
valuable treatment option against teeth
extractions) |
|
Steps in
completing a root canal treatment
|
| |
|
Radio graphs are
important for root canal treatment
Throughout a root canal treatment the
dentist will need several x-ray pictures of
the tooth to determine the position of the
instruments and filling material inside the
canals. The dentist also advises to have a
good pre-operative picture to determine the
approximate length of the roots and their
particular shapes and curvatures
Access opening is done in the root canal
treatment
First the dentist will remove any decayed
and weak tooth structure. A suitable opening
into tooth's pulp chamber is prepared to
allow access to the openings of the root
canals in the pulp chamber floor.
Instrumentation
used for root canal treatment
The root canals are identified and then
cleaned out with special root canal
instruments. Some are used by hand, others
rotate in a hand piece. They all have the
function of removing debris from the canal
and smoothing and shaping the walls of the
canals to create a smooth, clean surface
along the entire length of the tooth root
canal. The canals are constantly rinsed to
aid in debris removal and canal
sterilization. In some, but not all root
canal cases, the canals may be dressed with
various medications and sealed with a
temporary filling material to allow time for
the infection to clear.
Sealing is done in
root canals
Once the tooth root canals are suitably
cleaned and shaped and infection free they
can be sealed off. A root filling material
(usually a rubbery material called gutta
percha) is placed into each canal with a
special sealer.
Final restoration
becomes important in root canal process
Placing a suitable final restoration is
almost as important as the root treatment
itself. If the restoration leaks bacteria
can migrate down the side of the root sealer
and re-infect the tooth. A suitable
permanent filling is placed into the access
opening. Teeth with large amounts of damage
may need a post (a metal or fiber reinforced
resin rod) down one or more canals to anchor
the filling securely onto the root of the
tooth.
However the access opening is closed, root
treated teeth will always be weaker than
natural teeth and prone to cracking or
splitting. A serious fracture could mean
removing the tooth that was so carefully
saved with the root canal treatment. A good
way to ensure against such a disaster is to
crown the tooth.
Risks and
complications in the root canal treatment
Despite the best efforts of a dentist, a
small percentage of root canal treatments do
fail, especially if they are only done long
after the abscess is developed in the tooth
root. The failure rate increases if the root
canal treatment is a repeat treatment of a
previously failed root canal, or if some
damage has occurred to the root during
reaming. However, many teeth are
successfully saved from extraction, and root
treatments are a valuable treatment option.
We use very delicate instruments during
treatment to clean and shape the tooth. Very
occasionally these root canal instruments
can separate (break) in the canals. This
does not necessarily mean the entire root
treatment is a failure. Most often the
fractured piece can be removed or by-passed,
and a normal root filling placed. Sometimes
the root treatment is completed leaving the
piece of instrument in the root. Most often
this is not a problem. If the treatment does
fail one can consider an alternate surgical
solution: either extracting the tooth or
doing an apicoectomy (cutting off the tip of
the problem root and sealing it from the
outside).
Because of the infected nature of the
abscess there can be some discomfort or
swelling. This will be controlled with
antibiotics and anti-inflammatory as needed.
What happens if I
don't have a root canal treatment?
If a tooth has an abscess it can firstly
cause severe pain, but not always. Some
abscesses can be surprisingly painless.
Nevertheless, the infection at the root tips
can spread into the surrounding bone and
soft tissues and cause more serious
infections there that could cause swelling
and pain. Bacteria also enter the blood
stream and can infect other parts of the
body. Prosthetic hip and knee joints and
heart valves are particularly prone to
infection. Patients with other health
problems could also be at higher risk.
Root canal
treatment is too costly. What alternative
dental treatments are there?
Unfortunately, usually the only alternative
dental treatment that a dentist can suggest,
is to remove the infected tooth. Often teeth
requiring root canal treatments are weakened
from the large tooth decay cavity and cannot
easily be simply extracted. Many require
surgical removal. Initially the removal of
the tooth may save costs, but in the long
term replacing the missing tooth is far more
costly than root treating it and restoring
it with a suitable restoration, usually a
crown. Dentists advise against leaving gaps.
Following Your Root
Canal Treatment:
Our dental care clinic wishes to inform our
patients of what to expect following root
canal treatment. When a tooth is in the
process of healing, there are many factors
to consider. Every tooth is different, some
are more infected than others and some are
more difficult to treat. Therefore, there
will be some sensitivity and the tooth will
require some time to heal.
It can take up to two weeks for a tooth to
settle completely. There will be some
sensitivity to pressure, in which we advise
to avoid the area. Sometimes patients
experience swelling in the area, either from
infection or traumatization. It is not
unusual for a patient to develop more
sensitivity or swelling or both in the
treated area three to four days following
treatment. This increased sensitivity in the
tooth root is considered normal. Please
continue to take your antibiotics, if
prescribed, and pain medications as needed,
as they will both assist in the healing
process. Our dental surgeons recommend that
you to take your antibiotics with food.
There is no need to wake up in the middle of
the night. Just take them with breakfast,
lunch, dinner and a snack at bedtime.
With lower teeth you may experience a stiff
jaw and or some soreness upon opening and
closing. If this occurs, apply heat and
massage the jaw joint area. The freezing
injection is given in the joint area and can
sometimes cause stiffness. It may take up to
a month for the jaw to get back to normal.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A TEMPORARY
FILLING IN PLACE WHICH ONLY LASTS FOR
APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH. Therefore, it is
important that you see your dentist to have
a permanent restoration placed. This is of
extreme importance in order to protect your
tooth. |

Patient
Instructions and Guidelines : |
| |
Millions of people face tooth loss every
year, but luckily there are several options
in modern day dentistry to replace the teeth
with treatments dental implants, fixed
bridges and dentures.
People are advised dentures for the missing
teeth by the dentists for the following
reasons: |
-
Teeth adjacent to the gap (where the
tooth was lost) begin to shift (move)
towards the gap and cause functional
bite problems.
-
Missing teeth can result in bone loss
and shrinkage of your jawbone over time.
-
Missing teeth can cause your facial
muscles to sag (due to lack of support)
and make you look much older than you
are.
|
The dentists use two main types of dentures
to replace missing tooth, full dentures
which replace a full set of either upper or
lower teeth and the dental surgeons also use
partial dentures which only replace a few
missing teeth.
|
Denture Hygiene
Dentists advise all the patients to always
rinse the dentures thoroughly under running
water before any of the following: |
-
Soak dentures daily with an immersion
cleaner following the manufacturer's
direction.
-
Clean your dentures a second time each
day using a denture cleaning paste and a
denture brush. Do not use toothpaste.
-
Scrub your dentures weekly with a thick
mix of cleaner containing bleach. Rinse
thoroughly when completed.
-
If heavy calculus (tartar) deposits form
on your denture - soak overnight in
white vinegar, brush area carefully in
the morning and rinse thoroughly. This
procedure may be used on partial
dentures.
|
|
When handling your dentures do so over a
sink filled with water. This will cushion
them should they slip and fall. When your
dentures are being cleaned, rinse your mouth
thoroughly with water. Brush your upper and
lower jaw ridges and tongue with a soft
bristle tooth brush. Finger massaging of the
ridges is also helpful. |
| |
|
Sore Spots
Expect your new dentures to cause some sore
spots in the beginning. These will be
readily relieved by your dentist during the
first few adjustment appointments. As time
goes by changes in your jaws or your
occlusion (bite) may also cause sore spots
which can just as readily be relieved.
Speech
Practice, practice, practice!!! Be patient
and your speech will improve. Practice
reading aloud and alone, as if someone until
your speech is clean and natural.
Dislodging
Sudden bursts of air such as coughing,
sneezing and laughing; very wide opening
such as yawning; or extreme tongue movements
will dislodge even the best dentures. Avoid
these movements or place your hand over your
mouth.
Adhesives
Use denture pastes and powders only as
directed by your dentist.
General Advice |
-
Be sure to
leave your dentures out overnight or for
at least 2 hours each day. Dentures
should be stored in a covered container
with the cleaning solution when not in
the mouth.
-
Generally
the upper denture will be better than
the lower. One must learn how to use and
retain the lower denture.
-
In the
beginning, do alone, as much talking,
reading aloud and eating as possible.
This will allow you to avoid
embarrassing moments as you learn to use
your new dentures.
-
I Avoid
very hot foods, your temperature
sensitivity will be changed by the
dentures covering your jaws.
-
In time,
due to continued resorption of the jaw,
your dentures may require relining.
-
Have your
dentures, mouth, and adjacent structures
checked by your dentist at least once a
year. The needs and nature of each
patient vary, therefore, check with your
dentist about anything not covered here.
|
|
Dentures can be
regarded as the best dentistry treatment
option for the people who can not choose
dental implants or the orthodontic treatment
for some reasons like age or health
conditions. Dentures can also fulfill the
need of a cosmetic dental treatment giving
the patient a better appearance, better look
and the confidence back again.

| Extractions |
 |
|
| |
|
A Close Look At Wisdom Teeth |
|
Sometimes
toothache can be so severe or a tooth so
broken down, that you may want just to rush
to your dentist and have the tooth
extraction process done. Most of the times
it is the wisdom teeth that cause problems
and so need the removal treatment.
Sometimes the wisdom teeth can be pulled by
the dentists, although in most cases they
need to be cut out by a qualified dental
surgeon. When the time comes to have your
wisdom teeth extracted, you'll need to go to
an dental surgeon and have a consultation
first surgeon
During your consultation from the dental
clinic, your dentist takes a few x-rays that
will let the surgeon know how bad your
wisdom teeth are. The surgeon will go over
the result process, take a look at your
teeth, and then tell treatment options you
have. If he is going for a process like
removal treatment for your teeth, you'll
have the option of using local anesthesia or
going with IV sedation. A removal treatment
with IV sedation is the preferred way to
have wisdom teeth extracted, as you'll be so
relaxed you won't know how the whole teeth
extraction process is going on. If you
decide to just use local anesthesia, which
is numbing, you'll be fully aware of the
extraction procedure.
Depending on the shape, size, and the
formation of the wisdom teeth, the tooth
extraction treatment can vary from easy to
hard. If the root tips have managed to wrap
themselves around the bone, the removal
process can be very time consuming and quite
painful. Once the extractions have been
completed, there is normally little to no
swelling involved. Your dentist will
prescribe you some pain medicine, which you
should use as soon as you arrive home. If
you are going to use IV sedation, you'll
need to someone to accompany you, as you
won't be able to drive home. Having a tooth
extraction treatment is the same as having
an operation and, because of this, you must
look after the area to speed healing and to
reduce the risk of infection. Here are some
precautionary measures advised by our dental
surgeons: |
| |
-
For the first 24 hours, try to avoid
eating hot food, don't smoke, and don't
drink any alcohol and try not to disturb
any blood clot which might have formed
in the tooth.
-
Don't rinse your mouth for six hours
after extraction. After that, rinse
gently with warm salty water - half a
teaspoon of salt in a glass of water is
enough.
-
Brush your teeth as normal to keep your
mouth as clean as possible.
-
Sometimes the patients may feel some
small pieces of bone work way out of the
socket - don't worry, this is perfectly
normal.
-
There may be some swelling in the tooth
after extraction treatment and a bit of
discomfort in the first two to three
days. You can take some ordinary
painkillers like- aspirin, ibuprofen or
paracetamol if needed.
-
If you feel pain immediately after the
tooth removal, it might be where the
blood clot has broken down leaving an
empty hole in the gum. This is called a
'dry socket' and will need to be looked
at by your dentist. In such cases, go
back to the dentist and the dentist will
pack the wound to ease your discomfort.

Crowns
& Bridges |
 |
|
| |
|
A crown is the
dental restoration for a broken or weak
tooth caused by decay or large fillings. A
complete restoration comprising the natural
tooth shape, size and function of the tooth
can be achieved with the help of a crown
whilst a dental bridge is used to replace
several missing teeth.
Using a tooth colored material that does not
leave a black line at gum level and has
similar Translucency characteristics to the
enamel of your own teeth, naturally
complements the rest of your smile through
ceramic crowns and bridges.
Crowns and bridges are also known as
cosmetic dental treatments as they restore
and enhance your beautiful smile and also
the confidence. |
| |
|
Bridges to
replace missing teeth |
|
For patients who are missing a tooth or
series of teeth, all-porcelain dental
bridges may offer the ideal solution for
dental restoration. At our dental clinic, we
place dental bridges that provide a natural
appearance, reduce a patient's risk of gum
disease, and correct speech and bite
difficulties. In addition, dental bridges
eliminate the possibility that your
remaining teeth will shift to fill the gap
left by a missing tooth. |
| |
|
What is a Dental Bridge? |
|
Dental bridges consist of a custom-made
false tooth supported on either side by one
or two porcelain crowns, or composite
bonding material. In dentistry a bridge is
used to aesthetically remove the gap left by
a missing tooth, giving the patient a decade
or more of comfortable and healthy dental
life. The dental bridges used in most of the
dental centers are made up from dental gold
or entirely from dental ceramics or a
combination. The most common type of dental
bridge is the porcelain fused to metal
bridge.
All metal bridges are the strongest, but
don't look natural. The dental care centers
offers ceramic bridges that are the most
natural looking, but are not as durable. The
porcelain veneered to metal bridge suggested
by our dentists has the best balance between
strength and aesthetics by employing a metal
substructure for strength which is covered
on the outside with tooth-like dental
ceramic. |
-
If the
patient has a missing tooth, the dentist
will replace that tooth cavity with a
dental bridge.
-
The anchor
teeth are prepared and an impression is
made of the prepared teeth to send to
the dental technician. A temporary
plastic dental bridge is fitted over the
prepared teeth to protect them while the
final bridge is being manufactured.
-
The
finished porcelain fused to metal bridge
is tried in and the bite adjusted if
necessary.
-
Once the
fit, shape and color of the bridge is
satisfactory the dental bridge is
cemented in place permanently. A very
natural looking end result is achieved.
|
|

| |
|
How do I take care of my bridge? |
|
Ceramic crowns and bridges should be brushed
and flossed just like regular teeth. With
bridges a special Butler floss threader or
Oral-B Superfloss is used to clean under the
bridge. |
| |
|
Crowns to
restore the natural look and strength of
teeth |
| |
|
What is a crown?
Crowns are dental restoration treatments
that fully cover, or 'cap' the natural tooth
in order to restore the tooth's shape or
improve its strength when it has been
heavily filled or damaged in an accident.
Crowns can also be used to improve the
appearance of teeth that are stained, spaced
or slightly out of position where veneers
are considered unsuitable.
What are they made
from?
Crowns can be made from metals such as
stainless steel or gold, composite resin,
dental porcelain or a combination of
porcelain and metal alloy.
How long do these
restorations last?
Our dental care clinic believes that crowns
are one of the strongest restorations for
heavily filled and root treated teeth. The
dentists working with us use materials of
the highest quality and contract with dental
technicians that we know produce quality
laboratory work. When the dentist places a
crown or bridge we expect it to provide
decades of dental restoration. However, for
the restoration to become a reality you need
to take proper care of your teeth and gums.
While crowns are very durable, plaque
bacteria produce acids and toxins that can
attack the tooth under the crown and the
gums around the crown causing it to
failprematurely.
What if I don't
crown a heavily filled or root treated
tooth?
All fillings weaken teeth to some degree.
While teeth restorations done with newer
bonded composite resin ("white") have a
lesser impact than silver amalgam, any
filled tooth may develop cracks over a
period of time. Root treated teeth
especially become brittle due to the absence
of the natural pulpal fluids inside the
tooth. As the stress cracks at the base of
the cusps get bigger the tooth may become
painful to bite on, the nerve inside the
tooth may be so affected that a root
treatment is required or part of the tooth
may break away. Sometimes the tooth may
split so badly that thetooth must be removed
and replaced artificially. |
| |
|
What are the benefits of having a crown? |
|
|
|
Steps in making crowns |
|
Root treated teeth with gum recession. Dark
root necks are visible above the old crowns.
The gums above the crowns are red and
swollen from the ill-fitting crowns.
In the restoration process, the old crowns
removed and the teeth prepared for new
crowns. Gold posts placed down the root
canals and cores build up the damaged teeth.
Impressions are made and the teeth protected
with plastic temporary crowns while the
final crowns are manufactured.
The new all-ceramic crowns are tried in and
checked for fit, colour and shape. The new
crowns are then cemented in place with a
permanent cement. With the completion of
this restoration process a very natural look
is achieved with healthy gums at the crown
margins. |

Dental Implants |
 |
|
| |
Dental Implants
: Another alternative for the replacement of
missing teeth.
If you are missing one, or more natural
teeth due to injury, disease or decay, there
is another restorative treatment as an
alternative - dental implants surgery.
Implants can be used to replace a single
missing tooth, several teeth or all of one's
teeth. While the cost tends to be greater,
implants more closely resembles the look and
feel of your own teeth. Not everyone can
have dental implants, so talk to the dentist
to help you assess your individual needs. |
| |
What is a
dental implants surgery?
An implant is an artificial tooth root and
can be made from various materials including
titanium. Unlike removable dentures or fixed
bridges, dental implants are surgically
"implanted" under the gum tissue in the jaw
bone. |
-
Generally,
age is not a barrier if you are in good
health with healthy gums.
-
You must
have proper bone structure in your mouth
to support the dental implants surgery.
-
People who
may not be good candidates for dental
implants surgeries are those with
chronic problems such as clenching the
jaw or grinding teeth, those with
certain medical conditions such as
diabetes and those undergoing radiation
or chemical therapy for cancer.
-
Heavy
smoking and alcohol use might also rule
out the option of dental implants
treatment.
-
For long
term success of the dental implants
treatment, you must maintain excellent
oral hygiene habits and regular visits
to your dental care centre.
|
|
What are the advantages and disadvantages of
dental implants? |
-
Any dental
implants surgery may offer increased
stability because it fuses with the
patient's own healthy bone, allowing the
replacement teeth to feel more natural
and some people find the fit more
comfortable. \
-
People
often choose dental implants treatments
because they may look more natural than
dentures or bridges and feel more
secure, allowing you to look and feel
better about yourself.
-
The cost
for implants surgery may be more than
for traditional bridges or dentures.
When used together with bridges,
implants are more similar in look and
feel to natural teeth.
|
|
What is involved with the placement of a
dental implant? |
|
There are
several steps involved in the placement of a
dental implant, and these steps can vary
depending on a number of factors. The
process will generally start up with surgery
to place the anchor of the implant.
Depending on the type of implant, the
surgery will "implant" the anchor, in some
cases with a post already attached that is
used to connect the anchor to the
replacement tooth. With other implants, a
second surgery may be necessary to place the
post. Once the implant has bonded with the
jaw bone and the gums have healed, an
artificial tooth that looks like a natural
tooth is made and attached to the implant.
The dental implant treatment time varies
depending on individual needs but can take a
number of appointments and may take up to
nine months to complete. |
| |
|
What is
involved in the care of implants?
Following the home care instructions
recommended by the dental surgeon is vital
for a successful dental implants surgery
outcome. Your overall health may affect the
success of the implant treatment. Poor oral
hygiene is the most frequent cause of
problems and implant failure. Dentists
always recommend that following placement of
an implant the patients should take care to
brush and floss around the implant as
directed by their dentist. Some patients may
require additional visit to their dental
clinic for cleaning and examination of gums
to make sure that the gums are healthy. All
patients should follow the instructions
provided by their dentists.
Is a dental implant
right for you?
Today, there are several dental treatment
options for restoring teeth damage due to
periodontal disease, an injury or lost teeth
: dentures, bridges, partials and now dental
implants. Each treatment has various
advantages and disadvantages. Dental
implants surgery may help improve your
appearance, confidence and enjoyment of your
favorite foods. Talk to your dentist about
the procedure details of your own situation.
Single Tooth
Missing
Benefits of an all-ceramic crown on implant:
When both the tooth and root are damaged,
the best permanent replacement is a dental
implant treatment in conjunction with a
ceramic crown. This solution both looks and
functions just like a natural tooth.

|
|
Treatment
This dental implants surgery normally
includes four visits to the dentist. You
should expect to be able to work the day
after having the implant surgery done.
Course of dental
implants treatment
The course of implant treatment described
here is one of several options available.
Consult your dental care centre to find out
what the best solution is for you, given
your specific condition.
Installing the new
tooth - Step-by-step
The dentist makes a first examination and
takes one or more x-rays of the area to
prepare for the procedure.
The implant is installed. At this time, a
temporary tooth is provided that allows you
eat and function like normal almost
immediately. The implants will need a few
months to integrate with the jawbone before
the next step is taken.
The final step of the dental implants
surgery is the placement of the permanent
ceramic tooth. The new tooth is installed
for life. No additional treatment is needed.
You should expect the new tooth to fit and
function just like a natural tooth. Do your
usual dental hygiene to keep the tooth and
gum around it clean and healthy.
Several Teeth
Missing
Benefits with fixed bridge on implants:
In this case, when replacing three teeth in
the far back of the mouth, a fixed bridge
anchored to dental implants is the only
fixed alternative. Traditional dentures
can't offer the same stability or function
given by the dental implants surgery.
Having dental implants surgery to replace
your lost back teeth will give you new,
unparalleled strength and stability that
allows you to eat what you want. This dental
implants treatment will also preserve your
jawbone and facial appearance.

Ceramic
Veneers |

|
|
Veneers to improve your smile! |
| |
|
What are veneers? |
|
Veneers, or porcelain laminates, are a thin
"shells" custom made to fit precisely over
the front of an existing tooth. They are
permanently bonded in place with a special
adhesive resin through this dental
treatment.
The finished result of ceramic veneers
treatment is extremely strong and durable.
Although veneers are not suitable for every
patient, they are alternative cosmetic
treatment for a variety of dental conditions
affecting the front teeth. |
| |
|
What are the veneers used for? |
-
closing spaces
-
restoring broken or chipped teeth
-
covering unsightly, stained fillings
-
correcting uneven or crooked teeth
-
correcting uneven or crooked teeth
|
|
Questions and Answers: |
| |
|
What are the
advantages of veneers over full crowns
treatment?
Less natural tooth needs to be removed
during preparation and they cost less than
crowns.
Can all stained or
damaged teeth have treatment of veneers?
No. Some teeth are too weak or too stained,
and would be best restored with a full
crown.
What are veneers
made from?
Usually porcelain, but sometimes composite
resin.
What's so special
about porcelain?
Strength, comfort appearance and bio
compatibility are the qualities of ceramic
veneers treatment. Porcelain is a durable
material that resists chipping, cracking and
staining. It is non-irritating to the gums
and mimics natural tooth structure very
well.
What are the
advantages of porcelain laminates over other
composite bonding dental treatment?
Since they are made of porcelain they are
stronger and more durable than composite
resin. Sometimes composites will stain with
age, whereas, the porcelain laminates
maintain their beautiful luster and
vitality.
How long will they
last?
Porcelain laminates are so strong, we expect
they will last several years.
Is there any pain
involved in the ceramic veneers treatment?
Dramatic changes in smiles can happen with
little or no removal tooth structure. Only a
little drilling is involved in the veneers
treatment. Some patients don't require any
anesthetic, but most prefer some for peace
of mind.
How thick are
porcelain laminates?
They are anywhere between ½ mm to 1 mm
depending upon the severity of the problem
being corrected. They are so natural looking
and feeling, you will hardly notice the
difference from your real teeth except for
the cosmetic improvement!
Is there a certain
age group porcelain laminates are best
suited for?
No. Everyone can benefit from them, young
and old alike. |
| |
|
Steps in placing veneers |
-
The tooth before a small amount of tooth
is trimmed away by the dentist to make
space for the porcelain laminates
-
After preparation, the dentist makes a
rubber impression so that the dental
technician can pour a plaster model of
the teeth.
-
Final veneers bonded in place by the
dentist.

Diabetes and Gum Disease - What's The
Connection? |
| |
Most people look after and take care to keep
the teeth healthy and clean, but the gums
are an area that often gets neglected. Gums
house tooth enamel and root structures and
can quickly get affected if teeth have
infections. Gum disease, or periodontal
disease, vary from mild to severe and cause
an array of symptoms such as pain, soreness,
bleeding and tooth loss.
Our dental care center offers
technologically advanced gum treatment for
patients suffering from gum disease. With
the highly effective gum treatment
techniques our dentists help to stop or slow
the progression of periodontal disease.
An early detection of gum disease becomes
crucial in fighting the effects of harmful
bacteria. Timely gum treatment can help you
save your natural teeth and prevent
irreversible damage to your teeth and gums.
Dental surgeons advise to give your gums the
attention they deserve. This can also take
care against serious health problems like
oral cancer.
Diabetes and Gum
Disease - What's The Connection?
Gum disease, also known as periodontal
disease, is one of the leading causes of
tooth loss among adults and is also
frequently linked to the control of
diabetes. Periodontal disease is an
infection in the gum tissues and bone that
keep your teeth in place and has also been
linked to heart disease, strokes and in some
cases to mouth cancer. |
| |
|
Factors That Link Diabetes to Gum Disease |
-
Studies show that people with
insufficient blood sugar control seem to
develop gum disease more frequently and
more severely than people who have good
management over their diabetes.
-
Diabetes slows circulation, which can
also make the gum tissues more
susceptible to infections.
-
Diabetes reduces the body's resistance
to infection which increases the
probability of the gums becoming
infected.
-
High glucose levels in saliva promote
growth of bacteria that cause gum
disease.
-
People with diabetes who smoke are far
more likely to develop gum disease than
people who smoke and do not have
diabetes.
-
Poor oral hygiene is a major factor in
gum disease for everyone, but it is even
more so for a person with diabetes.
|
| |
|
Signs and Symptoms of Gum Disease |
Prevention |
-
Red
and swollen gums
-
Gums that tend to bleed easily
-
Gums separating from the teeth
-
Loose teeth
-
Frequent bad breath
-
Change in the way your teeth fit
together
-
Change in the way partials or dentures
fit
|
-
Maintain good control over your blood
sugar levels.
-
Do not smoke
-
Good oral hygiene and regular dental
check ups are essential in preventing
gum disease.
-
Eat a healthy and well balanced diet.
|
|
Be sure to tell your dentist and hygienist
that you have diabetes so that any signs of
early gum disease can be detected by the
dentist. |
| |
There are two major stages of periodontal
disease, gingivitis and periodontitis. Even
though people with diabetes tend to develop
gum disease more frequently than others, if
diagnosed in the early stage (gingivitis),
it can be treated and reversed. If treatment
is not received, a more serious and advanced
stage (periodontitis) may follow which
includes bone loss and is not reversible.
How to Prevent Gum
Disease
Periodontal Disease can affect more than
just our oral health. The American Dental
Association states, "There is evidence that
bacteria in the mouth which are associated
with gum disease may be linked to heart
disease, artery blockages and stroke." |
| |
|
The following tips can help you to prevent
gum disease: |
| |
|
Difficulty :
Easy Time Required
: Daily Routine |
| |
|
Here's How: |
-
Brush your teeth properly twice a day.
Brushing your teeth thoroughly removes
plaque from the surface before it
hardens into calculus.
-
Use a fluoride toothpaste. Using a
toothpaste with fluoride helps to
prevent decay.
-
Floss your teeth daily. Flossing is the
only way to remove plaque from in
between your teeth that a toothbrush
can’t reach.
-
Use a mouth rinse. An antimicrobial
mouth rinse can provide extra help in
controlling plaque. Listerine is a good
choice and has been approved by the
American Dental Association.
-
Visit your dentist for regular check
ups. Visiting your dentist on a regular
basis is the best way to make sure that
your teeth and gums stay healthy.
|
|
What should you do if you think you have
gum disease? |
|
The first thing
to do is visit your dentist for a thorough
check up of your teeth and gums. The dentist
will then decide if a referral to a
periodontist is necessary. The periodontist
will take measurements of the gum crevices
or pockets around your teeth and X-rays are
likely to be taken. Following this a
diagnosis and detailed advice of any
necessary periodontal treatment will be
given to you. |
| |
|
What is the treatment for gum disease?
|
-
Regular
visits to your dentist are essential if
gum problems are to be prevented or
recognized and treated.
-
Gum disease
treatment will depend on the type of gum
disease present and how serious or
advanced the condition is. The dentist
will instruct and help with specific
oral hygiene methods to control the
bacteria that collect on our teeth.
-
The dentist
or hygienist will carry out meticulous
tooth cleaning both above and below the
gum line, in order to remove as much of
the tartar and plaque deposits.
Treatment including prescribing
antibiotics may occasionally be used. If
the conditions are right these measures
will encourage the gums to heal and stop
the disease progressing.
-
The gum
disease treatment includes removal of
hard deposits above and below the Gums.
-
Special
Hand Instruments and Ultrasonic Scales
are used in periodontal treatment.
-
The mouth
is numbed with local anesthesia by the
dentist.
|
More serious periodontal disease may require
the use of a wide variety of surgical
techniques. Some of these techniques in
certain situations may allow for gum
recession to be treated in order to improve
the overall appearance.
After the periodontal treatment, a period of
ongoing maintenance is almost required to
monitor the gums and prevent or treat any
areas if the disease returns. A periodontist,
hygienist or dentist may provide this care. |

Children
Dental Care |
 |
|
|
Your Child's Dental Care |
|
Oral health or the dental health is very
important to have health body and health
lifestyle. The early years of life from
birth to age five can be called the
foundation of the dental health of a person.
Children are born free of dental disease,
yet by adulthood, 95% of the population has
active gum disease and most people have
experienced some tooth decay and even tooth
loss. Our dental care clinic believes that
disease can be prevented with adapting
healthy oral habits and precautions. Our
dental care centre aims to provide the best
dental care available to secure your child's
dental health. Healthy baby teeth are
important for eating, smiling, talking and
keeping a place for adult teeth. Healthy
dental habits help avoid tooth decay and
promote good general health. |
| |
|
How to Brush Children's Teeth to Have
Healthy Teeth |
| |
Choose a Small
Toothbrush With Soft Bristles
With so many toothbrushes available for
children, it can be confusing trying to
decide which one is the best to have healthy
teeth. The toothbrush that you decide to use
for your child should be small enough to fit
comfortably into your child's mouth and
should also have soft bristles.
Use a Small Amount
of Toothpaste
It's important not to use too much
toothpaste. A pea size amount is fine
because it doesn't create too much foam to
interfere with brushing.
Best Position for
Brushing
It is the easiest to stand behind or beside
your child with your arms around their neck.
Hold the toothbrush in a position that's
comfortable for you.
Use a Timer
My children's pediatric dentist recommends
brushing for 3 minutes. You can set a timer,
or buy an inexpensive sand filled one. The
one shown here is brightly colored and fun
for my children to watch.
Brush the Back
Teeth First
The first 2 minutes of brushing should be
focused on the child's upper and lower back
teeth, where cavities usually develop first.
Use short and circular motions, like you
would with your own teeth, spending the most
time on the chewing surfaces.
Rinse Thoroughly
Be sure to teach your child how to rinse, by
swishing water around in his / her mouth and
spit. Swallowing too much toothpaste could
result in a condition known as fluoritis
which could cause white spots to form on the
teeth.
Finish up Front
Finish the final minute of brushing by
focusing on the upper and lower front teeth.
Angle the toothbrush where it is comfortable
and flexible. Remember to brush the sides
facing the tongue as well as the sides
facing the lips.
Flossing
You should start flossing your child's teeth
when they touch each other. Back teeth will
usually be the ones to touch each other
first. You can use a piece of dental floss
or a child's dental flosser. Kneel in front
of or to the side of your child. Floss in
between all of the touching teeth, starting
in the back and working your way to the
front. Be sure to floss gently underneath
the gumline.
Admire Your Child's
Teeth
Congratulate your child for doing such a
great job and compliment them on their
beautiful and shiny teeth! Praising your
child could boost their self esteem and
possibly get them interested in oral health.
Good eating habits
promote healthy teeth
Eating healthy, nutritious food is good for
teeth, gums and general health. This is
especially important for your growing child.
Offer healthy snacks of fresh fruit, cheese,
milk and home made food.
Water is the best drink for quenching your
child's thirst between meals.
Cut down on chocolate, sweets and drinks
with sugar.
When your child does have chocolate or sweet
or sticky food, brush their teeth. |

Smile
Designing |
 |
|
|
What to look
for when Designing Your Smile! |
| |
Horizontal
Symmetry:
Draw an imaginary horizontal line through
the centre of both your pupils and another
horizontal line between the tips of your
canine teeth. Ideally, these two horizontal
lines should be parallel. Often, one side
slopes down.
Vertical Symmetry:
Draw an imaginary vertical line through the
centre of your face. This mid-line should
run through the centre of your eyes, nose
and chin. Ideally, the mid-line should also
run through your two central incisors thus
making the central incisors a mirror image
of each other.
Smile Width:
Ideally, a wide smile will show your first
molar to first molar tooth. Although if you
have a narrow smile you may only see the
front six teeth from canine to canine.
Smile Line:
Draw an imaginary curve along the bottom of
your upper teeth and compare it to an
imaginary curve of your lower lip. Ideally,
your smile should be curved in order to look
younger.
Gum Line:
Draw an imaginary curve along the top of
your upper teeth. Ideally, only the pink
triangular parts of gum between the teeth
show. However, some people show a lot more
gum or the gum that shows is uneven giving
an irregular gum line.
The Golden
Proportion:
This special proportion was discovered by
the Greeks and is found in many areas of
nature. Ideally, the widths of each of the
front teeth compared to the next follows
this special proportion.
Tooth Proportion:
Ideally the width of a tooth should be
approximately 80% of the length. However for
patients that wear/grind their teeth, this
ration is closer to 1:1 as the teeth have
shortened and become squarer. This is a way
to measure exactly how much tooth has been
lost over the years and is often used to
rebuild edges of teeth to their ideal
proportions and perfect smile.
Embrasure Space:
These are the little triangular like spaces
between the tips of the front teeth. Without
embrasure spaces, the teeth would look like
flat piano keys with no character to them.
Ideally, the embrasure spaces should be
smallest between the two central incisors
and gradually become larger as you examine
teeth further into the mouth. An ideal
feminine smile tends to have more definite
round embrasures. |

Orthodontic
Treatment |
 |
|
Why are braces and
other orthodontic procedures important?
An attractive smile and improved self-image
are important benefits of orthodontic
treatment. Alleviating and preventing
physical health problems are important
medical reasons, too. Without treatment,
orthodontic problems can lead to tooth
decay, gum disease, bone destruction,
chewing and digestive difficulties, speech
impairments, tooth loss and other dental
problems.
Do braces hurt like
some of other cosmetic dental treatments?
The advantages of the new braces include low
force and almost no discomfort. If you
experience discomfort the first week or
right after braces are adjusted, you can use
aspirin, non-aspirin pain-reliever or
ibuprofen to relieve it.
At what age should
orthodontic treatment occur?
Orthodontic treatment can be started at any
age. Any person of any age has the wish and
right to look beautiful and as it is a
cosmetic treatment, anyone can go for it
with a consultation with the dentist. But
most problems are easier to correct if
detected at an early age, before jaw growth
has slowed. Early dentistry treatment may
mean that a patient can avoid surgery and
more serious complications.
Does braces, a
cosmetic dental treatment, prove helpful for
adults?
Even though there are advantages to an early
start, adult orthodontic treatment is very
common today. Treatment can be started at
virtually any age.
How long will this
cosmetic treatment last?
It varies for each patient - depending on
how much your jaw needs to change and how
far your teeth must move. Typically, braces
need to be on for anywhere from a few months
to two years or so. Our dentists are
committed to making your treatment as swift
and effective as possible.
Will I still be
able to play sports?
Yes! Our dentists do recommend patients
protect their smiles by wearing a mouth
guard when participating in any sporting
activity. Mouth guards are inexpensive,
comfortable, and come in a wide variety of
colors and patterns.
Will braces
interfere with playing musical instruments?
No, but there may be an initial period of
adjustment. In addition, brace covers can be
provided to prevent discomfort.
Are retainers
necessary and how long will I have to wear
one?
A retainer is a device worn full or
part-time after braces have been removed.
It's designed to prevent your teeth from
drifting or moving while the bone around
your teeth hardens and stabilizes. The
longer you wear your retainer, the better
your chances that your teeth will not
relapse. The dental clinic advises the use
of Retainers as they provide assurance that
your teeth will stay in perfect alignment
while your jaw continues to grow or develop.

Bleaching
of Teeth |
 |
|
Whitening and
Bleaching of the teeth to lighten dark or
stained teeth
Vital bleaching treatments have been
developed over the years to the point that
they now provide a useful and safe way of
whitening teeth. The teeth whitening process
can be carried out in the dental surgery
using stronger "power-bleach" products or by
using bleaching gel placed in a bleaching
tray and worn at home or work. There are
several teeth whitening products from
various manufacturers that require differing
periods of wear each day ranging from 30
minutes twice daily to several hours each
day. A product can be selected to suit your
lifestyle. Most home use systems require one
to two weeks of treatment.
Tooth whitening or tooth bleaching is a
process for lightening the colour of your
teeth. The tooth whitening treatments done
by the dentists are done in a safe and
effective method of restoring natural teeth
to a lighter colour. Natural tooth substance
is not removed or altered in any way.
Tooth bleaching proves effective
approximately 95% of the time removing the
discoloration and the staining in the tooth.
The teeth whitening process occurs via
oxidation. Free oxygen radicals attach to
the stains in your teeth (oxidation). This
causes the stain to disappear. Though the
teeth whitening process can be done at home,
it is always better to go your dentist for
the teeth whitening. Teeth whitening
supervised by dentist is recommended because
it requires full examination prior to
treatment.
The teeth feel very clean after the
bleaching procedure. The whitening materials
also have an indirect positive effect on the
gums. The peroxide based agent in the
whitening materials is also useful to
improve the health of' the gums.
Incidentally, this is how the technique was
invented. The tooth whitening materials were
initially used in gum irritation treatment
for during orthodontic treatment. |
| |
|
Note: |
|
Bleaching will not alter the colour of your
fillings and crowns. These may need
replacement with lighter shade restorations
after bleaching is complete. Bleaching
should not be done if there is any gum
disease, decay or leaking fillings. |
| |
|
Non-vital Bleaching (bleaching teeth that
have had the nerve or pulp removed) |
This may be a rather extreme example of
single tooth discoloration following trauma,
but if it is your tooth it is no joke. Not
all these teeth can be treated successfully
with bleaching. Many require crowns or
veneers.
This tooth was successfully treated with
internal, non-vital bleaching. After a
successful root canal treatment was
completed and the pulp chamber sealed, the
hollowed out crown of the tooth was filled
with a bleaching paste and then sealed with
a temporary filling. The bleaching paste was
replaced every week until the desired
lightness was achieved. The bleaching paste
and temporary filling were removed and a
permanent restoration placed. |

Medical Tourism came into existence as an
innovative and new concept that saw people
traveling abroad for getting superior
medical, orthopedic, dental and cosmetic
treatments through experienced, expert
surgeons and physicians employing the
state-of-the-art medical facilities and
infrastructure............all this at a mere
fraction of the price paid in the USA, UK
and other European countries.
The sphere of the term 'Medical Tourism' is
very vast, encompassing so many other terms
like Medical Travel, Surgical Tourism,
Health Tourism, Health Travel, Medical Value
Travel, Healthcare Abroad, Overseas Medical,
Surgery Overseas, Medical Outsourcing and
also Offshore Medical. Thousands of people
living in USA, UK and European countries
wish to get excellent medical services
without spending out their entire
life-savings.
Dental Tourism
is a vital area of medical tourism that is
really in demand and booming very fast. We
can define dental tourism as a branch of
medical tourism that includes traveling
abroad for affordable dental care, dental
surgeries, dental treatments or dental
procedures comprising some cosmetic dental
treatments which are generally expensive in
one's own country.
Normally, the medical insurance is provided
by the employer in most of the countries,
but very rarely the medical insurance
consist dental insurance benefits. The
people getting dental insurance benefits are
considered the fortunate ones for an obvious
reason that is the huge expenses dental
treatments need.
Normally, the medical insurance is provided
by the employer in most of the countries,
but very rarely the medical insurance
consist dental insurance benefits. The
people getting dental insurance benefits are
considered the fortunate ones for an obvious
reason that is the huge expenses dental
treatments need.
In USA, UK and Europe the health facilities
are very costly, especially the dental
treatments just wipe out most of the savings
of the patients. This scenario has given
birth to dental tourism, through which
patients can receive same dental treatments
of same quality from expert and experienced
dentists and dental surgeons by going to
other country. Dental tourism which is also
known as dental travel has been offering a
low cost high quality dental treatment
alternative for such people.
Many countries have been presenting
discounted dental surgeries and dental
treatments world wide. Though the concept of
dental tourism has been experiencing a boom
for some time now, it is not a recent
concept. Mexico has been providing
affordable dental implants, discounted
dental crowns for many years and thousands
of Americans have been using these dental
services.
But the new episode in the dental tourism
started when many Asian countries like
India, Thailand, and Singapore stepped into
the sphere of dental tourism. In a short
span of time, India, Thailand, Singapore
have became equally popular and preferred
dental tourism destinations for their
exclusive qualities like the superior
services, best and latest infrastructure and
equipments, skilled dental surgeons and
dentists, compassionate and trained
Para-medical staff, command over English
eliminating the language barrier and along
with these advantages these countries have
unparalleled, fabulous tourist destinations,
coming as a bonus for the dental tourists
visiting India for the dental treatments.
India has become the most popular dental
tourism destination among the patients in
USA and UK. The dental clinics in India have
been offering all the dental treatments and
surgeries of best quality giving the
patients more than their expectations at the
most competitive prices. Dental Implants,
Orthodontic Treatments, Ceramic Veneers
Treatment, Crowns and Bridges, Gum
Treatments, Cosmetic Dental Treatments are
some of the dental procedures for which
India is chosen as the first destination by
the patients living in USA and UK.
|
 |
Benefits of Dental Tourism in India
Low Cost
Indian dental clinics offer cost savings in
dental treatments. Due to low cost labour
and administrative costs, it is possible in
India to offer top quality dental care in
comparatively low costs.
Excellent Quality
The dentists and the dental surgeons in
India are known for their excellent quality
of work. This quality will be equal or even
superior to what people get in USA and UK.
The dental care centers in India have
state-of-the-art technology and modern
equipments giving the patients comfortable
and painless dental treatments. Thus the
patients get satisfactory results and that
too in much lesser costs than they would
have spent in the dental clinics in USA and
UK.
Treatment and
Travel
While the primary motivation of the most of
the patients is affordable dental care, but
for some people it is a dental visit
combined with traveling or having vacation.
Given the low cost of road, air travel,
accommodation the patient's family or
friends can come with him and they can have
a vacation together.
Why India is A Preferred Dental Tourism
Destination?
One does wonder why India is regarded as the
most popular dental tourism destination in
Asia, why thousands of Americans, British
and Europeans flock India every year for
various dental treatments and dental
surgeries, why should the people living in
Europe or America choose India for getting
done the dental implants or the orthodontic
treatment or the dentures.
Treatment and Travel
All this is so because India has the best
qualified dental surgeons, state-of-the-art
technology, the best infrastructure and
equipments and fluent English speaking
Para-medical staff. The hospitals in India
offer world class medical facilities with
the best infrastructure at very competitive
prices.
The health care and medical facilities that
the people from USA, UK and other European
countries receive in India charge the
patients a mere fraction of what they have
to pay in their own country. For example,
when medical treatment costs in India are
compared to similar procedures in the US or
the UK, they are lower by at least 60 to 80
%. The dentists in USA, UK & Europe can
charge $300 to $400 for a Dental Filling,
while it costs only $20 to $40 in India. The
charges of a Root Canal in the West are
$3,000 and it is only $100 to $200 in India.
Dentures can cost $1000 in USA, UK and
Europe but only $200 in India.
Another main advantage of visiting India for
medical treatments is the availability and
guarantee of internationally acclaimed
medical standards compared to any medical
centers in the world along with highly
qualified dental surgeons, dentists and
other hospital support staff. The dental
care clinics in India like ours where
overseas patients are treated on a large
scale, conduct all the medical
investigations with the help of the latest,
technologically advanced diagnostic
equipments. These medical centers follow the
quality assurance exercises and the test
results rigorously affirming the best
quality and accuracy.
One more point that attracts people from
Western countries to India for the dental
treatment procedures, is the wide spread
knowledge and fluency in English. Though
India is a multilingual country, English is
spoken at most of levels of the country, so
the tourists from abroad don't find face a
problem traveling in India for visiting
places or medical tourism. Most of the
medical staff in India has a command over
English and if the patient has a problem
with English, a translator is arranged to
accompany the patient during his stay in
India.
The pharmaceutical sector of India is also
very capable and participating in the
research field actively. The Indian
pharmaceutical products are recognized and
accredited worldwide. All the necessary and
essential medications are available here as
Indian physicians keep pace with the latest
technology and the inventions in the field
of pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.
We provide exclusive tailor-made medical
services to all our patients, especially the
overseas patients as they are unfamiliar
with lifestyle, climate and food of India.
You can have several options in the private
dental care centers, regarding having a
private room, private chef, convenient
transport facilities etc. Our dedicated
staff takes efforts to make your stay the
most comfortable and satisfactory as per
your expectations.
The dental tourism in India is
combined with travel and sightseeing by many
patients visiting India. They not only get
treated and cured of the ailment at an
affordable cost, but also visit many
beautiful and excellent historical cities
and places of interest in India with his
family or friends. |
