Venna Lake
The Lake is popular and has boating facilities. Prior permission has to be obtain for fishing.

Bhatgar Dam
40 kms from Pune is a beautiful place called Bhatgar. It has recently developed as a picnic spot. Bhatgar Dam is on the river Velvandi, it is one of the highest river dams wall in India. Bhatgar Dam is also known Lloyd Dam.
Beautiful gardens with water sports have been developed in the surrounding areas. Surrounding area is also worth watching.
How to reach :
S.T. buses are frequent between Pune-Bhatgar.

FORTS

Sinhagad
Sinhagad is the most prominant and popular fort in Pune. Sinhagad  was once known as " Kondhana " . It is 25 km away from Pune. It is on a high hill  1290 m high. Tanaji Malusare - Shivaji's trusted and one of the brave generals fought a battle here all alone with the Mughal army. He fell dead while fighting in this place and after his death Shivaji renamed this Kondana fort as "Sinhagad ". Sinhagad means fort of the Lion i.e. it was named so because Tanaji fought like a lion. 

It is a popular picnic spot. Special buses are available to go to this place.

PURANDAR FORT ( 40 KM ) :

This is yet another fort situated at a height of 1350 m. It served as the capital of marathas of Shivaji for brief period. It now has the Academy of National Cadet Corps.

SHIVNERI FORT ( 92 KM ) :

This is the birth place of Shivaji. The mosque the fort is particularly noteworthy and is flanked by two minarets joined each other by graceful arch.

PRATAPGADH FORT:

     At a distance of 24km from Mahabaleshwar ,this fort constructed in 1656 is famous for encounter between Shivaji and Afzal Khan one of the Generals of the 
ruler of Aurangzeb-which ended with the death of latter even he was stabbed by Shivaji's 'Tiger Claws'.

LOHGAD AND VISAPUR FORTS (52 KM) :

The twin forts are a km away from each other and situated on a hill. The lohgad fort was at one time one of Shivaji's strongholds.
A stretch of rigid separates it from Visapur Fort. The hill is ideal for hiking and trekking.
