Born on 10th April 1948 in Haryana, but brought up in Pune, the Ex-Wadia student. Mr. Agarwal's reading & writing credentials triggered his responses to start the 1st Hindi weekly in Pune by the name of 'Raviwar ka Anand' in 1971. The initial version had a minimum circulation but after lasting for about 8 years it was upgraded to an impacting daily by the name of 'Aaj Ka Anand' in 1979. The name 'Anand' is inherited from Mr. Agarwal's elder son Anand whose birth coincides with the launch of 'Ravivar Ka Anand' on 11 Dec 1971. Till that time only a handful Hindi language newspapers were published in Maharashtra, most of them belonged to big business houses and were merely supplementary to their main publication. |

But from the very beginning Shri Shyam Agarwal strived to give something
in his "Aaj ka Anand'', which would be news-worthy and at the same time
interesting & informative. Trying to publish a Hindi daily from Pune was
sort of a gamble, but he had visualized the potential of
fourth estate and took the gamble. This venture was ably supported by his
dedication, hard work and conviction and he got the desired results.
Though a slow starter, "Aaj ka Anand" has now emerged as force to reckon
with and has a circulation of 75,234 copies spread over all
sections of society. He did not stop at merely bringing out a newspaper,
but always strived for its progress and therefore upgraded the
printing & other equipments from time to time. |
