  Another ceasefire violation along LoC

JAMMU: In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops on Thursday targetted Nowshera sector in Jammu and Kashmir and fired six mortar shells. Pakistani forces resorted to intermittent firing of mortar shells in Jhangarh area of Nowshera sector in Rajouri district for 45 minutes from 0640 hours, defence spokesman Lt. Col S D Goswami said. Indian troops exercised restraint and did not retaliate, he said, adding there was no loss of life or damage to property in the shelling. "The troops are alert all along the Line of Control (LoC) to foil any evil design of the enemy", the spokesman added. This is 27th ceasefire violation in since the beginning of the year and 7th in the last one month. Despite India asking Pakistan to respect the border ceasefire in force since November 2003, the Pakistani army continues to indulge in cross-border firing across the Line of Control and the International Border. Right since the beginning of this year, there has been a spurt in cross-border firings and infiltration bids in sectors like Krishnaghati, Bimbergalli, Gurez, Mendhar and Tangdhar, among others.

BMW sting expose: Anand, Khan held guilty

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday held RK Anand and IU Khan guilty in the BMW case expose by a TV channel that showed nexus between defence, prosecution lawyers and a witness. The High Court said senior advocates Anand and Khan can not appear in all Delhi courts for four months. They can practice legal consultancy, said the Delhi High court. Anand and Khan were the defence lawyer and special prosecutor in the case, respectively. Meanwhile, the final arguments on behalf of the accused in the nine-year-old BMW hit-and-run case concluded on Wednesday with two accused claiming that allegations of washing the offending vehicle at a house after the incident have not been established against them. Bhola Nath and Shyam Singh, who along with businessman Rajeev Gupta are accused of causing disappearance of evidence by washing the BMW car on the morning of the incident, said that they did not commit any offence. "Prosecution has not proved its allegations that they washed accused Sanjeev Nanda?s car to shield him and hence, caused disappearance of crucial evidence,?? their counsel G P Thareja told Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar. As the defence concluded its arguments, the court asked additional public prosecutor Rajeev Mohan to wrap up his additional submissions on August 26. Grandson of Admiral SM Nanda, Sanjeev Nanda, allegedly ran over seven people in January 1999. Six of them died.
