Pune University Gets State Of The Sports Facilities, Rs 10 Crore Fund Approved for Swimming Pool And Savitribai Phule Memorial
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was speaking at the inauguration of the Pavilion Building and state-of-the-art synthetic track at Khashaba Jadhav Sports Complex. During the inauguration, Pawar stated that a fund of Rs 10 crore will be provided for the memorial of Savitribai Phule and the swimming pool on Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) premises.
Minister for Higher and Technical Education Uday Samant, SPPU in-charge Vice-Chancellor Dr. Karbhari Kale, Registrar Dr. Praful Pawar, Director of Technical Education Abhay Wagh, Director of Sports and Physical Education of the University, Dr. Deepak Mane, President of Sports Complex Committee Rajesh Pande, etc. were present during the inauguration.
Pawar said that the government is trying to provide better sports facilities in the Balewadi area. Similarly, the university will also be assisted in creating up-to-date sports facilities. The government will stand firmly behind any part of the state for the benefit of society and for educational progress. Cooperation will also be provided for Deccan College and Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve’s memorial.
Upon the need to provide infrastructure and encouragement to the players:
“We should all work together to build a university that the next generation will be proud of. Our young generation has great potential. There is a need to provide training and encouragement to the players by creating infrastructure while expanding their potential. The university will be assisted in resolving any issues. Proper planning is required to maintain the sports complex without burdening the players. In the case of the university, everyone should work with a sense of belonging, with a sense of responsibility, and every student should show a sense of belonging to the officers, professors, and staff, appealed Pawar.
He further said that Khashaba Jadhav inspired everyone by achieving success in adverse conditions. He gave the country its first bronze medal in wrestling. Swami Vivekananda influenced the world with his thoughts and deeds. He said that the statues erected at the university would inspire the students to work for humanity and success. Pawar appealed to the citizens to be careful as corona infection is on the rise in some cities.
On the occasion of Environment Day, he said that while global warming is affecting the world, it is time for all to work together for the protection of the environment.
Education minister Samant said that an attempt is being made to make Pune world-famous by completing the halted education projects in Pune’s education sector. The university and the government will have to work together to ensure that state-of-the-art education is available in the university. Maharashtra is the first state in the country to have reserved seats for the children of Kashmiri Pandits. He informed that Rs 13 crore 33 lakhs are being sanctioned for National Higher Education Mission. He said that the university would make efforts to erect a swimming pool and a memorial of Savitribai Phule in the sports complex.
Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Kale said that Savitribai Phule University has received many honors for its valuable achievements in the field of education. The University has expanded its reach through a number of international agreements. The university is ranked 18th in the country. He expressed confidence that the 27-acre sports complex would make the university famous in the field of sports at the national level.
The youths of Shahu Lakshmi Kala Krida Academy performed a demonstration of men’s sports Dandpatta, Lathi Kathi, and Fencing. Mallakhamb players representing the state in the Khelo India tournament gave a demonstration of Mallakhamb.
The new sports facilities of the university have an indoor auditorium for multi-purpose sports. There will be various sports like Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Judo, Karate, Netball, Table Tennis, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Boxing, and Gymnastics.
The sports complex has an international standard 400-meter synthetic track and pavilion building. A football stadium has been set up in the center of it, for which a grant of Rs.4 crore has been received under the National Higher Education Mission (RUSA) and the rest has been spent by the university. Players will benefit from this updated synthetic path.
