Kitchen
tips
- Use a pair of Kitchen scissors to chop
chilies, etc., fine. It will keep hands from burning, and the job is
done much faster too.
- Always take care to cover vessel with
a loose lid, while boiling chilies, garlic and other such spicy
condiments. The smell tends to permeate the house. Keep the kitchen
exhaust on and windows wide open, as an added precaution
- Always rinse containers in which
sauces have been made, with some vinegar and hot water, to alleviate odors
before using for another dish.
- Avoid cooking sour dishes (like
tamarind based dishes) in non stick pans coz the sources will remove
coating faster.
- To chop onions without tears, slit a
clean transparent plastic bag from base, so that both sides are open.
Place board, and hands inside this and chop onions with the bag forming
a loose casing.
- To cut any rolled rounds in desired
shapes use a pizza cutter instead of knife. You will get a better
finish, and the round will not crease or pull with the knife.
- Place a kitchen towel under the legs
of a rolling board, while making chapattis. The board will not slip,
and allow faster rolling.
- Always store kitchen ingredients in
see through containers of either clear glass or plastic, for ease in
locating, cleaning and keeping track of what's required to be refilled.
- To make an easy muslin pouch : Take 2
consecutive corners of a rectangle piece of cloth and knot together
tightly. Repeat for other 2 ends. Hold like a hammock shape, pour in the
curd and use the knots to hang the opening with a plain clothes line
clip. Hand on a hook or tap easily.
- Add a dash of rice flour in the salt,
from becoming lumpy in moist climate. Add a few rice grains in the salt
shaker.
Reuse of cereal box liners This one's especially for regular micro wavers. You can remove the wax
liner from the cereal boxes after the kids have finished them. Open
them along their seam, clean out the crumbs and save them to use
wherever you would use normal wax paper! This includes anything from
covering things to warm in the microwave.
An extended life for Teflon Coated Pans
Ever wondered that why your so promising Teflon coated utensils loose
their coating ; a probable reason could be your carelessness while
stacking them up after their use along with other utensils. An easy way
to preserve their coating is by using those extra plastic lids from
reseal able containers that you might have in your kitchen cabinet. You
can put these lids inside these utensils so that they do not rub against
the other utensils thereby preserving their coating. Also, never use
metal utensils on Teflon.
Dishwasher & Silverware When Loading up the dishwasher separate the spoons, forks, and knives in
their own compartment so when you have to put them away, you just pick
up and put away-no more sorting!
Double a Sponge's Life
I use a sponge to wash dishes, like most folks. However, Cut my
sponges in half before I use them. This way I get two for the price of
one. They are also easier to handle.
Don't throw away those plastic bags that onions or fruit come in! They
make excellent pot and sink scrubbers and they don't scratch like steel
wool does. Believe us you wouldn't have to buy anymore scrubbers.
Dish Detergent, make it Last Longer How often have you wondered why so much waste of the dish detergent, reasons are quite many main reason here would certainly be we
leave it near the sink and even when we are not using it it tends to be
wet all the time and so lot of it goes waste even when we are not using
it you can get hold of a plastic pump bottle if you have in your house
somewhere or buy one from your local supplies store and carefully empty
dish detergent (powdered form) into it. It is amazing how long dish
detergent will last this way, you only use a small portion every time you need it.
How to clean Microwave :
Talking of hygiene here's another tip for cleaning microwave, If you
heat up a cup of water for instant coffee or tea, take a moment when
it's done to wipe down the walls and ceiling of the microwave with a
