As a mother in law (You and your daughter in law) :

This perhaps is one of the most misinterpreted relations for a young girl who is about to be married. Tales of bridal torture, torching, overburdened with work all these thoughts cloud her mind. The projected villain here is a mother in law. Lack of education can be said to be one of the attributes for this mindset other attributes include the numerous real life incidents which are highlighted in TV channels, news prints, magazines etc. 

But all mother in laws are not the same there are good people too. If your daughter in law seems frightened of you or is not herself when you are around you got a problem here. Think of it you too were in her shoes once so you know what she must be feeling in her heart you will need to comfort her treat her as your own daughter after all she has married your son. The prime importance here should be the well being of your family whether it's mental health or physical health. So make your daughter in law your friend share jokes, go shopping, surprise your husbands, there's so much to do than to create a fuss over small things.
